KATHERINE HEINRICH
Katherine Heinrich was born November 26, 1872 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to John Heinrich and Wilhemenna Gephart. Records available indicate Katherine was one of four children, and grew up near Plymouth, Hennepin County, Minnesota. See the entire Heinrich family here.
Katherine married Ernst Jakob Binder around 1893, probably in South Dakota, and from this union four children were born: Louiza Rosine, Hedwig Katherine, Ludwig Jacob, and Karl Otto. Within a few years, the children's names were Americanized: Louise Rosine, Hattie Katherine, Louis Jacob, and Carl Otto. In 1900, many Binder and Heinrich family members were living in and around Day and Grant Counties, South Dakota. By early 1902, Ernst and Katherine had moved to what soon would become the state of Oklahoma, and the family settle near Shawnee, Pottowatomie County, as did Katherine's parents. Ernst's sister, Mary (Maria), her husband Ferdinand Jeske, and their five children had also moved from South Dakota and settled on a farm nearby. Following Ernst's death from typhoid fever in 1907, Katherine was left to raise their four children on her own. A probate case for Ernst, ongoing for almost fourteen years, appears to have centered around Katherine's attempts to hold on to the family farm. By 1910, Katherine and the children were living at 224 N. McKinley in Shawnee, a home Katherine's father had purchased in 1902. The family remained in Shawnee, where the children attended school and church. On December 11, 1915, Katherine married Carl "Charles" Binder, one of Ernst's older brothers, in Shawnee; the couple requested that notice of their license not be published in the local paper. There is no record of the couple divorcing, however by 1930 census records place Charles living in California with his daughter. Katherine continued to report herself as a widow on census records. By the early 1950s, Katherine moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma with her daughters, living at 739 N. Florence. Katherine died at the age of 80 in Tulsa on June 14, 1953. She is buried in Fairview Shawnee Cemetery, Shawnee, Oklahoma. Click the links in blue to learn more about Katherine's parents, siblings, spouses, children, and to see photos. |
